Since 2005, Valérie Messika has reinterpreted the age-old codes of Place Vendôme and extended boundaries for diamonds in her assertively modern jewellery designs. Deeply in love with the City of Light, she shares her favourite addresses.
What is your link with Royal Monceau - Raffles Paris?
Three years ago, my husband gave me a surprise by booking a magnificent suite here for Valentine's Day. Flowers and heart-shaped balloons awaited us, with photos of our two daughters and personalized messages on the walls. A wonderful welcome, a delightful souvenir.
How does Paris inspire you?
For me, Paris is the world's loveliest city. You find French expertise and craftsmanship on each street corner, in the architecture of certain buildings, museums… The Parisian lifestyle is very inspiring.
Your ideal outing in Paris?
On weekends, I like to visit the "Jardin d’Acclimatation" with my daughters. A delightful place, especially when it's sunny. It allows me to relax and spend time with my family.
MATSUHISA PARIS
Restaurant
I am a great fan of Japanese gastronomy and the hotel's Matsuhisa Paris restaurant is its worthy representative. I love to go there, for lunch or dinner. Both delicious and healthy, the dishes on the menu are perfect for staying slim! All in an extremely pleasant setting.
PICASSO-PARIS NATIONAL MUSEUM
Museum
As a designer, art inspires me a great deal. I'm lucky enough to have a few works by Alberto Giacometti and Arman at home. I really appreciate the Picasso Museum (especially since its renovation in 2014) in the historic neighbourhood of Le Marais. With a collection of over 5,000 works, it is a place I recommend to all art-lovers.
LA POULE AU POT
Restaurant
An institution in Les Halles since 1935, La Poule au Pot now flaunts a Michelin star. Chef Jean-François Piège proposes classics of French gastronomy such as veal "blanquette", frogs' legs and gratins, in magnificent Art Nouveau bistro decor. One of my favourite addresses for a great dinner with friends!
MARCHÉ AUX PUCES DE SAINT-OUEN FLEA MARKET
Market
I love digging for treasure here. The renown of this century-old market has spread widely abroad. With different areas dedicated to antiques, it is perfect for unearthing rare, original items. With a little patience, you find real gems! A must!
CAFÉ PIERRE HERMÉ - BEAUPASSAGE
Café
I have always admired the work of pastry chef Pierre Hermé. We in fact worked together in January 2020 to celebrate Epiphany at the Royal Monceau – Raffles Paris. The Café Pierre Hermé - Beaupassage is perfect for a generous weekend tea-time. My favourite: Mogador macaroon with passionfruit and chocolate.
MARCHÉ DES ENFANTS ROUGES
Market
Built in 1615, this is the capital's oldest food market. On its colourful, fragrant stalls, you find an amazing array of tastes and cultures. I love to shop here, but also to sample delicacies from all over the world (Italy, Lebanon Japan, Morocco…) served by delicatessens on long tables, old-style. The best way to discover a city!
LE BAR
Bar
Ideal for having drinks with friends thanks to its extraordinary blue decor and enticing signature cocktails. My favourite ? "Moscow Mule", based on vodka, ginger beer and lime. As an anecdote, it is also our most beloved cocktail at Messika!
